Rogue
What's it all about? You've just finished several years of training as a student at the local fighters guild, and you're now ready to indulge in your first adventure. The local guildmasters have decided to send you off into the hideous and foul Dungeons of Doom, and have asked you to return to town with the renowned Amulet of Yendor. If you succeed, you'll become a fully fledged member of the fighters guild, and you'll get to keep the booty you returned with. You start off your journey with an enchanted mace, a bow, a quiver of arrows, elven armour and enough food for you to reach the dungeons.
How does it differ? This is where it all began! Angband and it's variants, along with a veritable smorgasbord of other role playing games are all referred to as roguelikes, and thus owe their own existences to this very game. Sure, it's rather basic, it lacks the features we've seen in our favourite games, but back when this was in it's heyday, there simply wasn't anything else! This was the trend setter!
You have a limited number of statistics available at the bottom of the screen display; Gold, Level, Hp, Str, Arm and Exp - Str being your one stat, which can range from 3 to 31. Arm is your current armour class. No more pages of resists and abilities! All stats were hardcoded, so there was no editing/peeking to be done.

Rogue was only ever officially released as VAX binaries with BSD Unix. I have yet to find full source code for the latest version available. As for platform specific executables, I urge you to visit the Rogue homepage and any other related sites, as Rogue itself has changed from platform to platform, each adding to the basic Rogue.
