Omega
What's it all about? You start your adventure in the city of Rampart, ready for your first incursion into the wilderness that surrounds it. First stop is the Caves of the Goblin King, lying due south from the gates of Rampart. Join your choosen guild, equip yourself well, and step forth into the unknown. Or you could always try playing the game as yourself...
How does it differ? The first thing that drew me to Omega was the size of Rampart itself - it's HUGE! Plenty of different buildings to play with, guild houses, castle, arena. This was the first time I had seen an extended town area, and so I was pleased to see it appear in Kangband. There is no predefined way to 'win' Omega - there are a number of paths that a player can travel, each depending upon their choosen guild. Rampart is surrounded by a number of dungeon entrances, thus giving the player a choice of destination. There are also temples dotted around the countryside, so there's plenty to see. Stat wise, there are no WIS or CHA, but with AGI (agility) and POW (power) in their places.
This was another Amiga port that I gave a wide berth until it got some graphics - too much hard work trying to imagine creatures when all I can see is ASCII!
