| How does it differ? | GW stands for Greg Wooledge. Greg introduces a new rebalanced magic system for Mages, reduces the fighting abilities of the magical classes (Mage and Priest) and increases the fighting abilities of Warriors, Paladins and Rogues. He first tried to rebalance vanilla with his own version of 2.7.9v6, and since then it has moved from strength to strength. | |
| New to 2.8.3v1; Addresses several problems found in 2.8.3. Warriors will get fear resistance at level 25 instead of level 30, but only if they are using a missile launcher. Mages get more blows per round that they should. Hitting sleeping monsters may not awaken them. One of the Angband 2.8.3 cheat options used the wrong variable type. One of the ego types rolled randint(11) instead of randint(10), and then never assigned an ego power if 11 was rolled. Tried to add the random artifact version and seed information to the wizard-mode artifact spoilers. | ||
| New to 2.8.3v2; Player combat rules are significantly altered. Priest and Paladin spells have been reorganised. Leon Marrick's rod and wand stacking has been included. Keldon Jones' improved monster AI has been included. Tim Baker's easy patch 1.2 has been included. Eric Bock's scroll patch has been included. Stores and chests have been tweaked a bit. Paladin's get a melee bonus vs. undead and demons. The RNG code has been relaced with a new one. Mana calculations altered. Rogues are slightly better at magic. Some potions and scrolls are considered good. Teleport effects, mage spells and monsters have been tweaked. Meteor Swarm has been fixed, and Mana restoration is less abusive. | ||
| New to 2.8.3v3; Reorganised Mage spells again. The RNG is now initialised properly when loading a character from a save file. Bless Weapon spell now gives a non-zero WIS bonus. Hit point bonus for CON scores in the 17 to 18/50 range has been smoothed a bit. Trappers and Lurkers may be targeted once again. When throwing a wand/rod from a stack, the charges are handled correctly. Merged Robert Ruehlmann's DOS port changes. Scrolls of teleport are available in the Alchemist's store. Some items and monsters have been tweaked a bit. Characters now get more (and more useful) starting equipment. | ||
