| How does it differ? |
Joseph William Dixon's own Zangband variant. He hasn't liked any changes to
Zangband since 2.1.1c, and so he's used this as the basis of his variant. He's
implemented several changes in order to customise it. Puzzled by the name? Joseph
likes to call himself Gumby, hence Gumband.

New to 2.1.7b;
Numerous bigfixes. Being Berserk now gives +25 to hit and +(plev/2) to damage.
Reflection for monsters and players is no longer determined by the 'rad' field.
Added the maximum dungeon level to the main (first) character display. If the
player has the 'Chaos Gift' mutation and doesn't have a second magical realm, your
patron will be displayed as it does for Chaos Warriors. High Elves - required XP
is now back up to +100%. Added Rods of Pesticide, Amulets of Resist Electricity,
Rods of Stinking Cloud, Rings of Knowledge. Armours of Elvenkind no longer grant a
random high resistance, but their pval can go up to +4 now and also grants a
Searching bonus, as Elven Cloaks do. The TY_CURSE object flag has been replaced
with the DEVICES flag, which gives you a Magical Devices skill of 95. Weapons of
Morgul no longer have the TY_CURSE, of course, so now they have an even chance for
either Drain Experience or Hold Life.
|
|
New to 2.1.8a;
Quick start characters now also have 1000 gold, start with a recall depth of 250',
and also start out with enough experience points to begin as level 5 characters.
Being Berserk now gives +25 to hit and +(plev/2) to damage (was +10) - in return,
you are reduced to just the base AC of worn armour and your DEX bonus. The Extra
Eyes mutation now gives you x2 Perception instead of +15. New Option - show_damage.
Racial polymorph during a do_poly_self() effect is now rarer. Gender is now
randomized during a do_poly_self(). Added a poly_all() function - (attempts to)
polymorph all monsters in line of sight. The Home now has 4 pages
(48 stacks of items) to store stuff in. On the 3rd page of the character 'sheet'
display, sustained stats are shown in light blue. New class - Archers. Beastmen -
now have a 1-in-4 (was 1-in-3) chance of losing a mutation. Chaos Warriors - bonus
shot now at level 30 [was at level 35]. Elves - skills have been improved a fair
bit, so XP required is now +25% [up from +20%]. Melniboneans - 10 hit dice, +40%
XP requirement, 20' infravision. [was +25% XP]. Monks - Hit Dice bonus is now 5
(down from 6). Paladins - bonus shot now at level 30 [was level 35]. Rangers -
bonus shots with Short and Long Bows reduced back to 2 (levels 20 & 40). Vadhagh -
9 hit dice, +40% XP required, 40' infravision [was +55% XP]. Warrior-Magi - bonus
melee attacks at levels 20 and 40, bonus missile shot at level 30 [values were
25/50 and 35]. Hit Dice bonus is now 6 (up from 4), equal to Chaos Warriors,
Rangers and Paladins. Added new monster flag - CHAOTIC. RBE_CONFUSE and RBE_BLIND
melee attacks can now be resisted by making a saving throw. The effects of Nexus
(not the damage) can be resisted if a check is made. Monsters can now
breathe Water. Water Vortices and Water Hounds are now Acid Vortices and Acidic
Hounds. Messed around with the monster list a bit. Under quick start, it is far
too excessive to allow Bill Ferny and Brian Mulroney to have DROP_GREAT, so they
are back to having only DROP_GOOD. The known uniques display has been split so
that the dead uniques are shown first, followed by a blank line, then the living
uniques. Chaotic weapons deal x3 damage to CHAOTIC creatures. Blessed weapons can
now get a pval of up to 4 (was 3). Scrolls of Artifact Creation have been removed.
Amulets of DOOM and Rings of Woe have been removed. The effects of drinking a
Potion of Death are resisted by characters with Hold Life. Weapons of Slaying no
longer gain Poison Brand or Vorpal/Earthquakes. Missiles of Slaying can now gain
more than just one extra damage die. Wands of Apportation can now only fetch()
objects that are 25lbs or less. The Katana of Groo is now 6 pounds, 1/2 the weight
of a regular katana. Weapons of Slay Elemental now grant the four basic
resistances. Removed all of the bad ego-items, except for (Shattered) and (Blasted)
items. By popular demand, Weaponmasters (and the new Archer class) now get the
good version of the Terror Mask instead of the hideously cursed version. Full
descriptions of Identified artifacts and ego-items are now shown in the
character dump. Identify and Identify effects now only show items that are
appropriate to the effect. In addition to their normal Clairvoyance, Detection,
Self Knowledge and Identify Pack effects, Potions of Enlightenment also
identify every object on the level. Removed artifact D:escriptions. All
instances of "Telekinesis" (spells, mutation & mindcraft) have been renamed to
forms of "Apportation". Numerous changes to spells.

|
New to 2.1.9a;
Invulnerability now only acts as an extra level of resistance. You can now only
use the Pattern to teleport to a maximum depth of 97. Non-unique monsters are now
less likely to resist Death Ray effects. Having Resist Chaos now prevents all the
side effects of being hit by Chaos. Chaos Warriors - Having Hionhurn the Hunter as
your patron now grants +10 to-hit instead of +7 to-dam. High-Magi - Pseudo-ID now
equal in speed to that of a Rogue's, but light. Monks - Disarming skill is now
35+13. Robin Hood, the Outlaw, is now accompanied by his band of Merry Men.
Monsters who breathe Force are no longer knocked back by GF_FORCE attacks. I've
gotten sick of always being killed by Gothmog, so I've reduced his 'awareness'
radius to 60 (from 100) and increased his 'sleep' value to 20 (from 0). Removed
the currently unused CHAR_MULTI flag. RBE_VAMP attacks now only heal the monster
by 1/2 the XP+damage they deal to the player. You can now brand picks and shovels.
Scrolls of Artifact Creation have been restored. Wands of Apportation can now only
fetch() objects that are 25lbs or less. The list of sustains and stat modifications
have been condensed in identify_fully() and self_knowledge() displays if all of
your stats are sustained or modified by equipment. Scrolls of Curse Weapon and
Curse Armour have become Shatter Weapon and Blast Armour. Potions of
Invulnerability are now called Potions of Resilience. Wands of Dragon's Fire/Frost
now do 200 damage (was 150) per shot at ground zero. Wands of Dragon's Breath now
do 250 damage (was 200). Wands of Rockets now do 300 (was 150+d50) damage. Wands of
Annihilation are now Death Ray effects with a power level of 60. Reduced the
failure rate of the various Identify spells a bit. Lots of changes to various
spells. Thanks to arch for the map_area addition to detect_random(). Thanks to
arch (and, apparently, APW) for fixing the flavours of store- bought items. Added
some more of Kieron Dunbar's patches: weight.diff (shows object weights when
'l'ooking around) for all systems, mainchoice.diff (seems to automatically show a
list when quaffing, zapping, etc., instead of giving a normal prompt with the '*
to see' option), windows.diff (enhances windows a bit for X11 systems), and
monlist.diff (lists monsters that are nearby in a separate window). Numerous
bugfixes.

|
New to 2.1.9b;
Ghostly/astral characters can no longer use Scrolls of Set Recall, even when they
reach the town - they are going to have to walk all the way down. Restored the
auto_haggle 10% 'sales tax' - it's a bit unfair, but I finally noticed that it
also keeps you from buying and selling at 100% of the price. Wands of Apportation
can now only fetch() objects that are 20lbs or less. {average} items [weapons and
armours] will now stack in the inventory once they've been pseudo-ID'd. Nature
spells - 'Blizzard', 'Lightning Storm', 'Whirlpool' and 'Nature's Wrath' have had
their damage potentials increased. 'Entangle' has been replaced by 'Venomous
Thorns', a stinging spray of Poison bolts.
|
|
New to 2.2.0a;
Damage from Rocket attacks is now reduced to 75% of the total (was 50%) if you
resist Shards. Damage from Gravity attacks is reduced to 75% (was 2/3rds) of the
total if you have Levitation. Added random player names from CthAngband. Added
point-based character generation from CthAngband. New level feelings. New class -
Beastmasters. The chance of an object being 'good' is now capped at 95% (was 75%).
The chance of a good object becoming 'great' is now 25% (was 20%). Astral
characters can again use Scrolls of Set Recall, due to popular demand. Dragon
Scale Mails have undergone a damage upgrade, in some cases doubling what they did
in 2.1.9b.
|
|
New to 2.2.0b;
Added the display of resistance and ability flags to the character dump. Poisonous
hits from monsters and traps (floor and chest) now last as long as the poison from
the mushroom/potion of Poison and GF_POIS effects. During point-based generation
of a character, you can now stop assigning points even when you have points left
over. Damage dealt in melee by one monster against another has been tripled. Extra
dice on ego-items (but not random artifacts or missiles) are now as common as they
are in SAngband 0.9.4. Added Holy Defender weapons from SAngband. MAJOR
change to the ego-items lists - the Slay Foo items have been removed and
the regular Slay Foo items gain the powers from the equivalent Slay item;
slay/Slay Elemental weapons no longer give all four basic resistances, but
instead gain up to two of the basic resistances in the same manner as Slay
Dragons did; Slay/Slay Undead no longer grant Nether resistance or Hold
Life, and are not Blessed, just See Invisible; finally, Weapons of Slay/Slay
Dragon do not give KILL_DRAGON.
|
|
New to 2.2.0c;
Holy Defenders were too common, they are now generated on a 1/10 chance when a
normal Defender would be chosen. Probing now reveals all of a monster's flags,
including spells. If you choose to play a High-Mage with Sorcery and you choose the
Quick Start option, you will begin the game with a Wand of Magic Missiles in
addition to the normal Quick Start bonuses. Altered the messages for the
CHAOS_GIFT mutation. Mabelrode the Faceless now moves at +40 speed. Xiombarg now
moves at +30 speed. Astral characters with the Stair Creation spell can no longer
create down stairs on dungeon level 97 (thus being able to reach Arioch) without
visiting the town first. Created the word_of_recall() function [in spells3.c] to
get rid of unnecessary duplication. New monster blow and effect flag: CHAOTIC.
Monster gender is now correctly displayed when performing a TONGUE or TENTACLE
attack. The Mind Blast Trump spell, mutation and Mindflayer racial ability, plus
Mindcrafters Neural Blast, are now 0-radius ball spells instead of bolt spells.
New monster blow effect: RBE_VORPAL. While the player is Blessed, they get the
effect of having Slay Evil if their melee weapon doesn't already have it. The
character's Tunneling skill is now shown in the skills section of the character
sheet.
|
|
New to 2.2.0d;
Primarily a bugfix release. Changed how extra dice on ego-items and artifacts are
calculated again. Upon death, all items in your equipment and inventory will be
Identified so that all of your resistances will be shown in a dump made
upon character death. Steel Shields are now a bit lighter than their iron
counterparts, just as Steel Helms are lighter than Iron Helms.
|
|
New to 2.2.1a;
Added Elemental pits. Added Ethereal Dragon pits (Dark/Light breathers).
The dice for melee damage the Sword Rulers deal have been changed to d3's across
the board, total damage is unchanged. New option - heavy_pseudo. Pseudo-ID type
is no longer based on class. Changed the small_levels option. Increased the damage
(more than doubled) from Arcane magic's 'Ball Lightning' and 'Poison Gas' spells.
High-Magi who choose Sorcery as their realm now get a Wand of Magic Missiles as part
of their normal, non-Quick-Start equipment. New store - Antiques Store, which only
stocks random artifacts and which only buys artifacts (random or standard).
|
|
New to 2.2.1b;
Joseph William Dixon's final release. Named slime molds have been removed. Randart
Picks and Shovels will no longer be generated in the Antiques Store. Extra blows
and speed no longer inflate the price of an object so drastically. Monsters normally
generated with escorts will get to keep their escort if they're generated as a
random quest.
