How does it differ? Essentially the only difference is graphically - it uses Sun's TCL 8.0 scripting language to improve the game graphically. There's a screenshot of it available at the homepage, and it looks rather nice! Now all I need is a way to get the latest version of TCL to work with the Amiga OS.
New to 2.8.3r4; The implementation of Adam Bolt's 16x16 256 colour graphics, along with a keymap editor for allocating actions to keys.
New to 2.8.3r5; A whole new sound system, along with the ability to choose between 16x16 or 32x32 graphics tiles.
New to 2.8.3r6; Extra sound stuff, configurable progress window, new graphical buttons for access to your inventory, and a new tips window.
New to 2.8.3r7; An update to the sound system, a new character flags window, and a new choose game window.

New to 2.8.3r10; The new 'scroll_follow' efficiency option which keeps the character centered in the display. The current character is displayed in the high score table, and the list can be searched and saved to a text file. The main window can be snapshot to a GIF, JPEG or PNG file assuming you have the IMG Tcl package installed. Updated options window. You can specify the number of messages to be displayed in the message history window.
New to 2.8.3r11; The Genocide spell now has it's own window. When the character is killed or retires after winning the game, the character's experience is restored, their gold increased by 10 miliion, and the Kingly window is displayed. This was originally missing from TK versions. There is now a message displayed when a monster kills another monster. Inventory window now responds correctly to certain keys. The keymap window interface has changed. Experience to advance has changed to having ***** displayed at level 50. The user is now warned when attempting to change any of the cheating options for the first time. This warning does not appear if debug mode or wizard mode were ever used. The Destruction spell now has an amusing visual effect. In the Message History window, identical repeated messages can be combined. The Probing spell now works much like the Look and Target commands. The Big Map can now be scrolled using cursor keys. The buttons in some windows, including the Startup, Birth, and Tips windows, have keyboard equivalents now.
New to 2.8.3r12; The new Font Window allows you to choose a different font for most of the game windows. A new option easy_floor was added to the game-play page of the Options Window - this tells the player how many items are in a floor stack. A new option easy_sense was added to the Options Window - this allows the character to get a feeling for any item looked at. A major fix of the animation code reduces the idle-time processor usage greatly. The sound directory can be changed in the Sound Window.
New to 2.8.3r13; Moving the cursor over a stack of objects displays a list of the stack in the Recall Window. Micro Map and cave map can be scrolled by click and drag. A graphical preview of each icon configuration is provided. The help window now displays help pages in HtML.
New to 2.8.3r15; Store Window has a sell menu containing a list of inventory items which can be sold. Assign window now supports multiple sounds to monsters. Inventory Window toolbar now has an entry which allows inscriptions to be edited. Added the auto_destroy option from Zangband. Pointing to an object on the ground now diplays the memory for that object in the Recall Window. Added informative descriptions for objects.
New to 2.8.3r16; Added the Action Menu to the Main Window. The Character Flags Window displays all the flags all the time. All of the items in the Misc Window now displau a help string in the Main Window status bar - if a stat is damaged, pointing at the stat will display the undamaged maximum, for example. Any item inscribed with '=g' will always be picked up regardless of the pickup options if the item can be carried. When attempting to wield a ring and both hands have rings, the user is asked which ring to replace. A different icon can be assigned to each character. Clicking the character image in the Misc Window pops up a menu of actions.
New to 2.8.3r17; Many new status messages were added for temporary conditions. Items in the Home can be destroyed with a command. Introduction of character records- when the character is killed, the user has the option of creating a character record, containing a character dump, message log and a photo. Photos are now more informative. Novice mages have new exeprimental behaviour. The Assign Window gives a visual indication of which monsters have sounds assigned to them.
New to 2.8.3r18; Lots of influence from David E Gervais - thanks to his new icon set, the town levels have a very customised appearance, the building doors now use individual icons, the dungeons now have a better appearance, new tiles for numerous monsters, and there are even some towns and quests from the man. The characters life rating is now displayed when creating a new character, and there's a speed increase when running around.
New to 2.8.3r19; Updated to use TCL 8.2.1. Now plays music. Character Info Window and Character Flags Window now merged into a single tabbed Character Window. New Choice Window displays all the choices which used to appear in the Recall Window, and displays a current list of inventory or equipment items. New Messages Window displays the most recent messages. Various window related commands were moved into the new Window Menu in the Main Window. Redesigned Help Window has an improved appearance, and includes the Angband Variant FAQQ and Angband Newbie Guide.
New to 2.8.3r20; Used Ben Harrison's changes to the easy options. New graphical combined Inventory/Equipment window. New graphical combined Store/Inventory window. The Micro Map Window now uses graphical tiles. The new Setup Window is a tabbed window that allows the user to choose the icon set and sound options. The roguelike keyset can be selected from within the Keymap Window. The mouse-tracker automatically shuts off if the character's hit points suddenly drop by 15% or greater. The music player can now randomly select songs to play from those currently installed. The target-set image now displays the ASCII character of the targetted monster. Now supports 24x24 icons. The game windows now display the application icon in the titlebar/taskbar instead of the Tk icon. The Misc Window now displays graphical labels in addition to text labels. The Music Window now displays a progress bar displaying the position of the current song. Savefile names are no longer truncated to eight characters.
New to 2.9.0r1; Now supports the borg - if installed, a Borg entry is added to the Other-Preferences menu which display the borg window. The new Book Window displays all the available books in a single window. Arrows and bolts use a difference set of icons when being fired from a missile weapon. The Font Window allows the user to change the font used in the Main Window, Store Window and Inventory Window status bars. The Inventory Window can be kept on top of the Main Window by choosing the relevant option. The Inventory Window supports drag-and-drop. The Main Window view can be scrolled when the game is asking the user to target a monster or location by clicking and dragging. When the game is asking the user to enter a direction, right-clicking on a location will target the monster or location under the cursor. Double clicking the Messages Window displays the message history. The Options Window has a list of options instead of the familiar tabs. The Store Window now supports drag-and-drop. Missile weapon hits give the same visual feedback as melee attacks.
New to 2.9.1r1; Who knows?
New to 2.9.1r2; Items which can be sold are displayed with a different border color in the Store Window. The Misc Window buttons now automatically pop up a list of item choices when the mouse is over one of the buttons. Added the "autobar" to the Main Window. When the user points the cursor at the Main Window statusbar, a toolbar pops up with a number of buttons. A "Level N" message appears in the Main Window when the character's experience level changes. Added the "Home" page to the Knowledge Window so the contents of the Home(s) can be browsed at any time. The status messages at the top of the Main Window are now assigned one of three flavors: Good (ie Blessed, Faster), Info (ie Full, Resting), or Bad (Confused, Stunned). Lots of bugs fixed.
